Her movie broke records. She’s the best part of every team up she’s in. She lead the Justice League Dark out of Hell and back. And now the WONDER WOMAN solo book gains new spirit with a new creative team. G. Willow Wilson is writing WONDER WOMAN. Cary Nord is illustrating WONDER WOMAN. It’s the kind of thing dream picks are made of.
Though the character is iconic and eternal, Wonder Woman’s comics have sometimes failed to register with an audience. Dense mythologies, other-worldly beings, heroes of titanic durability… It’s not the most relatable material in the world. But if there’s anyone who knows how to make the super suburban, it’s G. Willow Wilson.
Wilson’s Ms. Marvel is, I would argue. the most important comic of the last decade. Proper representation, empathetic storytelling, a sparkling sense of humor… it’s all on display. In Kamala Khan, Wilson has created a character who has already become iconic, spinning off to be the subject of TV shows and video games… This scrappy little nobody has become an Avenger in record time! And that is all because of Wilson’s amazing work as a writer.
Cary Nord is a phenomenal choice for art on this book. His X-O Manowar shows an incredible talent for action. Each page is dynamic and splashy without being crowded. His work on Britannia shows a keen grasp of the ancient (which may come very much in handy with a book about Wonder Woman). And after The Unexpected, Nord has firmly planted himself in the DC
Universe.
Plot details are scant but there remains no doubt that WONDER WOMAN #58 marks the beginning of a new era for everyone’s favorite Amazon. You can pick it up right now here at Forbidden Planet.
