Toy Fair is mainly about the DC and Marvel toys for me, but there are so many more licenses and properties to choose from if you’re not a comic character fan. Whether it is Star Wars or horror or something else, toy companies have their fair share of items from all kinds of genres. Let’s see what else is out there.
Hasbro– Now the master toy licensor of Marvel and Star Wars, Hasbro recently acquired the rights to make toys from Power Rangers, taking over from long time licensor, Bandai America. Those toys won’t hit til 2019 but fans are already speculating about what kind of toys we will see from the line.
Speaking of Star Wars, Hasbro had some new additions for Star Wars Black including Hoth Leia, a Porg 2 pack, figures from the Solo film, Zuckuss and Holdo from The Last Jedi. They also had the return of the 3 and 3/4″ vintage series on display.
NECA– Horror has always been one of NECA’s strong suits and this year, one of their coolest acquisitions is the license for Stephen King’s It. Both the 1990 and 2017 versions of Pennywise have been announced for release later in the year and the 1990 version in particular looks amazing. Featuring the likeness of Tim Curry, Pennywise will come with alternate heads to show different expressions of Pennywise’s frightening visage. The 2017 version will resemble Bill Skarsgard and features several different heads as well.
NECA’s retro line continues with The Fog, Re-Animator and two new Freddy Kruegers, one in his tuxedo from Dream Warriors, the other in his chef’s outfit from The Dream Child.
Jason returns to Camp Crystal Lake with the ultimate Friday the 13th Part 2 Jason Voorhees action figure. Jason will come with several weapons, an alternate head and Pamela Voorhees’ dessiccated and severed head.Jason is dressed in overalls and has the sack over his head.
Other NECA lines will include Predator, Aliens, Crash Bandicoot, American Gods and a Guillermo del Toro collection starting with Pan’s Labyrinth.
Funko– Funko kicked off a new retro action figure line with their He-Man-esque Savage World Mortal Kombat X line. Coming under this same banner this year includes the beautiful Thundercats toys, Conan and a mashup horror/fantasy line featuring reimaginings of Freddy, Jason and more.
POP vinyls are going as strong as ever with new licenses including classics such as Grease, The Princess Bride, Coming to America, as well as newer films like Ready Player One, Jurassic World 2, Atomic Blonde, A Wrinkle in Time and the recent Academy Award Best Picture Winner, The Shape of Water.
Mezco– Additions to their 1:12 line include John Wick, a 4 pack of the Ghostbusters, Michael Myers from Halloween, Jason from Friday the 13th and Ash from the Evil Dead. There are also new additions to their roto lines including Jason from Friday the 13th and Regan from The Exorcist.
That’s all for Toy Fair news- let’s take a quick look at what has come in this past week
