Lady Deadpool, Arsenal, Doctor Strange, Batman- what do these characters have in common this week? New action figures! And in the case of Batman, a new Batman: Black and White statue is also coming out.
Diamond Select has crafted a brand new figure based on Deadpool’s alternate earth counterpart- Wanda Wilson, otherwise known as Lady Deadpool. Lady Deadpool is joining the long-running Marvel Select line and features a base, several points of articulation as well as a Headpool accessory and an arsenal of weapons.
Which brings us to our next figure- Mezco has been having great success with their One:12 line which mixes plastic and cloth to create a fairly cool looking figure line. In collaboration with Diamond, Mezco presents their latest addition: Arsenal! Better known as Roy Harper aka The original Speedy/Red Arrow, this figure presents a Roy that looks like an amalgam of his comic book look as well as a little bit of the CW’s Arrow thrown in there. Arsenal will come with several interchangeable hands, his bow and quiver as well as a selection of arrows. If you’ve been collecting this line, you know how fast these sell, so if you want a companion piece to their recent Green Arrow figure, get it ASAP. It shouldn’t take Sherlock to tell you that.
Speaking of Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch has been busy making movies the last few years since playing that role. One of these films was Marvel’s Doctor Strange film. Bandai has been creating figures from a lot of Western licenses in recent years, including Suicide Squad, The Avengers and more. The latest Dr Strange figure comes from Bandai and Tamashii Nations in their SH Figuarts line. The SH Figuarts line is known for its high quality, from the paint to the sculpt as well as the interchangeable parts, plenty of poseability and accessories that make sense. Capturing Cumberbatch’s likeness, I expect this figure will disappear quickly- kind of like Batman when he leaves Commissioner Gordon’s office.
Christian Bale’s take on the Dark Knight has been considered by many to be the definitive take on the character. The popularity of the Nolan Batman trilogy has birthed some awesome collectibles, both domestically and from overseas. SH Figuarts strikes again with this new figure of Batman as seen in The Dark Knight. This figure features a bendable cape, insane articulation and swappable pieces and should make a nice companion piece to previous DC/Tamashii Nations figures.
Another Batman piece out this week is the Batman Black and White statue based on the work of artist Norm Breyfogle. Breyfogle’s art definitely holds a special place in my heart, since he was the artist working on Detective Comics back when I was growing up and rabid for Batman comics thanks to the 1989 film. Known for his dramatic capes, this statue looks to capture the artwork of Breyfogle quite nicely and should also be a popular piece.
Anyway- that’s it for me this time! Catch you soon!
