December snuck up on us pretty quickly this year it seems, so this week, I will be presenting the first part of my holiday gift guide. The focus this week will be on Marvel toys for the Marvel fan in your life. Let’s check out some of the items shall we?
Marvel Legends has been the main toyline for Marvel characters these last few years. Hasbro took over the reins in 2007 and though they started off with lackluster sculpts, they have vastly improved both sculpt and articulation to make some truly gorgeous figures. Several series come out during the year, usually tied into whatever media endeavor Marvel is currently promoting. This year saw the release of X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel Netflix and Thor Ragnarok waves. The vintage wave of Marvel Legends also arrived and flew out of here. There is some good news though as we will be getting a restock of this wave just in time for gift-giving. Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Iron Man, Black Widow and the Punisher all make up this strong wave and if there’s a die-hard Marvel fan in your life, you can’t go wrong with any of these characters.
Other strong choices for Marvel Legends-
Thor- Any version really, we have the Odinson version from recent comics, as well as the Jane Foster and the Chris Hemsworth Thor from the recent movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy- Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon with Groot would be the stand-outs for this series, though Angela was rather well-done.
Marvel Netflix- Daredevil and Punisher for sure, since both star in their own Netflix series. Jessica Jones(also a headliner) and Elektra both had excellent sculpting and would also make awesome gifts.
X-Men- Old Man Logan as well as Dazzler, Logan just came off a critically acclaimed film and the story that the figure is from is a massive fan favorite. Dazzler is perfect for fans of classic comic book looks and she is decked out in her 70’s best! I also got word that our restock of Deadpool from last year’s X-Men wave is due in, so be on the lookout for that as Deadpool is ever popular and it is highly likely that this will be our last restock of him.
Diamond Select Toys is responsible for both the Marvel Select line and the Marvel Gallery line- some notables include the Marvel Select Deadpool figure as well as Phoenix, Gamora, Star-Lord and Captain Marvel gallery figures. Our stock on Marvel items from Diamond Select fluctuates quickly, so definitely stop in to see what items we might have available.
Misc.- Mezco’s 1:12 line has been insanely popular this year with multiple sellouts across the board. That insanely popular character, Deadpool is also available in this series and comes with interchangeable hands, a base and several accessories.
Funko always has a wide variety of vinyl figures representing the Marvel Universe- as with the Diamond items, our stock on these varies on any given day- we do have some Thor Ragnarok, Spider-Man Homecoming and comic-based figures in stock right now though.
Hot Toys- for those of you who want a higher-end collectible/gift, Hot Toys has been crafting mini works of art for several years now. Currently in stock are Daredevil and Punisher from the Daredevil Netflix series, as well as Scarlet Witch from Civil War, Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man from Spider-Man Homecoming. Getting one of these will set you back a little, but they look amazing!
