The Graphic Artists Guild of New York is holding an interesting event at the Manhattan Campus of the Pratt Institute tomorrow night at 7pm featuring Becky Cloonan, Al Jaffee, and Mark Alan Tamatay.
Topics for discussion on their agenda include:
- What are the challenges cartoonists face today in getting their work published?
- How do you get started in the business?
- What is the current market for comics? What is the future of the cartoon industry?
- How does work get published? In what media? Print? Online? Animation?
- Is a passion to create an important part of having a career in cartooning?
- How important is it to be famous, or is it all about getting your work out there?
If you do decide to go make sure you pop into Forbidden Planet before or afterwards. The shop’s a few short blocks from the event (being held at 144 W. 14th Street) and it’s a Wednesday- and you know what that means. New Comic Day!
