Thor aka God of Thunder aka Point Break aka Sparkles has had a tremendous few years of comics. By my account, the Asgardians have been the top dogs in comics for seven years now. And even though Jason Aaron has been the shepherd of this all-timer run, somehow this week sees the release of THOR VOLUME 1 – GOD OF THUNDER REBORN.
So… how exactly does one read this character-redining run? I gotchu.
This epic 25-issue series is just the tip of the iceberg for what will go down as one of the greatest Thor series of them all. Thor faces off against Gorr, a being bent on killing every god in existence. We also see unfolding the story of Young Thor, palling around with vikings against a supernatural threat, and the tale of All-Father Thor, overseer of a dead and barren Earth. Add into this Malekith the Accursed and the nefarious Roxxon corporation, and you’ve got an auspicious beginning to a tremendous tale.
If you heard about a female Thor taking over the mantle and the Mjolnir of her predecessor, this is where that all kicks off. At just eight issues, this is a series jam-packed with incredible moments and one of the greatest debut series Marvel has ever produced for a character. What seems at first like a gimmick becomes a beautiful tale unlike any other.
THORS
This is where Secret Wars gets its mitts into everything and we get five issues of Every Thor Imaginable as interdimensional cops. It rules.
As we left them. The new Thor stands down the titanic beginnings of the War of the Realms, as the nine realms face an onslaught that is equal parts mystical, horrendous, and corporate. When the gods have failed the people they are supposed to serve, this new Thor will inspire them all. She shows them what it truly means to be a god. Even if it means forfeiting her life.
While all that is going down, Odinson just can’t move on from losing his hammer. And when the hammer from the Ultimate universe rears its ugly head, a cosmic clash kicks off that will set at least one Asgardian on a path of destruction.
And finally, THOR
The final (and second adjectiveless) series in this incredible Jason Aaron releases its first volume today. Thor has his title back. He’s trying on some new hammers. And he’s in for the fight of his life as the War of the Realms rises to a boiling point.
Grab this incredible first volume and get the whole run while you still can!
