It’s here! The next issue, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #8 Tis actually on the shelves this week. And, like, it’s only been about a month since the last one. Thank goodness for small miracles. After waiting an interminable length of time between the first six issues and last month’s seventh (okay, it was nine months but it felt like forever), it seems like Archie Horror has the release dates on track. The Witch-War kicks into a brand new gear with the second part of one of the best series coming out today.
For those of you who blinked and missed last issue, Edward Spellman, Sabrina’s father has returned and is trapped in the body of Harvey Kinkle. Yeah, ew. Meanwhile, Madame Satan has isolated Hilda and Zelda! The Spellman ladies have never been more vulnerable. And just what is Edward’s own dark agenda? Fortunately, the answers may be waiting for us in this week’s issue.
I have loved the reboot at Archie but the horror comics have been the shining beacon in the publisher’s line. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and it’s predecessor, Afterlife With Archie, reinvigorated the entire line of titles and these characters in ways that hadn’t been comprehended before. Would there be a Riverdale show on the CW without them? Would horror and genre fans be clamoring to read about Hilda and Zelda’s fates? I doubt it. There’s only been one knock from the titles birthed in the brains of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Robert Hack, and Francisco Francavilla: Inconsistent publishing schedule. I had to go back and reread every issue of the Sabrina before jumping into this new arc. Fortunately, the creators’ approach not only makes this one of the best series in terms of quality but also accessibility.
Now, with the timetable issue resolved, for at leas this series, I implore EVERYONE capable of reading this to pick up these chilling tales. Read the collection. Find issue seven. Pick up this week’s. You’re only doing a disservice to your imagination by coming up with excuses to put off experiencing Sabrina’s world.
