When our cup runneth over with too many great comics, we share the bounty of a robust New Comic Book Day with a list of our favorites. Here are Forbidden Planet’s picks for January 9, 2019.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1
I have never been this excited for a Spider-Man book in my life. My favorite writer in modern superhero comics Tom Taylor (X-Men Red, Injustice) is reteaming with one of the absolute best artists in Juan Cabal (X-23, All New Wolverine). This book will be overflowing with empathy, humor, and incredible action. GET. IT.
X-23 Volume 1 – Family Album
What a surprise thrill this book has been. I thought nothing could stand up to the tremendous All New Wolverine, but Cabal & Mariko Tamaki’s exceptional X-23 series has more than proven itself as an absolute powerhouse. May this be the first of many volumes.
Astonishing X-Men by Land & Rosenberg
The best mutant surprise of 2018. Havok put together a ragtag team of pseudo-X-Men for one of the most fun and surprisingly touching superhero books of the year. Come for the five issue joyride, stay for the Annual, which was one of this year’s best and most affecting comics.
Young Justice #1
Brian Michael Bendis (Jessica Jones, New Avengers) teams up with Patrick Gleason (Action Comics, Green Lantern Corps) to revive Young Justice! Back are Superboy, Wondergirl, & Robin. Joining them are Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex. It’s an all ages winner!
Barbarella/Deja Thoris #1
Two heroines from opposite sides of time solve a murder mystery unlike any other. Leah Williams (X-Men Black: Emma Frost, What If? Magik) teams with Carlos Gomez (Red Sonja) for a tremendous thrill ride!
Injustice Year Four Complete Collection
Another stellar entry in the Injustice series comes to you in a neat little package. Fill out your collection or take this as an opportunity to get started!
