Murder Ballads is more than just a new read. Murder Ballads is potentially sensory overload. A complete rock n’ roll opera with a killer soundtrack from Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Robert Finley, Murder Ballads is unlike anything else on the shelves. That’s right, there’s actually a soundtrack that only comes with the book itself. So, a cool crime story and original music you can’t get anywhere else. That’s solid bang for the buck.
What’s the story? Nate Theodore is a loser. He’s dead-broke, the deadbeat owner of a failed record label with a marriage that’s on the precipice. Nate and his wife, Mary, are fleeing from the carnage of their failed venture. Driving across the country in the dead of winter, Nate discovers one last chance to redeem his life’s ambition. At a dive bar he discovers Donny and Marvell Fontweathers, two African-American brothers who play a kind of the blues that Nate thinks will be his ticket to riches.
With success in his vision now, Nate might just be willing to do anything to see it come to fruition. Will that mean selling his soul to the proverbial devil? Will his marriage be murdered along with the killer tunes? One thing’s for sure, for your eyes and ears, this could be a cool new experiment that will stay with you long after you’ve read the last page.
Originally, the brainchild of Auerbch, Murder Ballads is the only place to get five new exclusive tracks from The Black Keys frontman. It’s been two years since a new album from the Grammy Award winner has come out. Z2 is offering a brand new take on the original graphic novel format with a multimedia experience. The big question is, will Murder Ballads be the first of its kind to catch on? For sure there is a second read and second listen in your future.
