There are too many great comics coming out than even the most dedicated comic shop employee can get to. I have a busy performance and recording schedule. I’d also like to hold to my girlfriend. One could read only X-Men related books and still feel overwhelmed by the release schedule. All this to excuse that… I didn’t read Mister Miracle.
And I wasn’t the only one. Probably. Actually, I can’t prove that.
What I do know is that this book damned near topped every Best of 2018 list there was. This is in a year with Snagglepuss, X-Men Red, Immortal Hulk… Steep competition all, and that this book held its own against them means that this book is something special. Word of mouth on Mister Miracle is as buzzy as a barbershop.*
*I should be fired for that.
Word on the street is, this book is immaculate. I’ve heard it uses beautiful, classic comic techniques blended (allegedly) with aplomb to modern storytelling style. Supposedly, Tom King teaches a masterclass in making comics human, relatable, and truly profound. According to legend, Mitch Gerads puts on a masterclass in sequential art and sets the standard for the current crop of comics that will be almost impossible to surmount. That’s the scuttlebutt, anyway.
FINALLY collected into trade is the whole twelve issue (supposed) masterwork, Mister Miracle. Grab yours and dig in with the book everybody read but me.
