Marvel Two-In-One #1 drops this week and teases that while the “The Four Are No More, So Two Must Do”. Perhaps the most exciting, well, I guess promise for lack of a better word, that Marvel Legacy #1 gave us, dear readers, was the eventual return of the Fantastic Four. And here, this week, it feels like we’re finally beginning to see some movement in that direction. But for the four to assemble, sometimes you need to start with a dynamic duo. And therefore, for now, we’re going to begin with The Thing and Human Torch’s adventures. Fine, for now.
The Fantastic Four have been one the cornerstones of the Marvel Universe for almost sixty years. Hence, their absence for the last couple of years has left a void in fans’ hearts. Plus, after the disastrous movie reboot has only made the heart grow fonder. Fortunately, there’s hope on the horizon. And the timing of Marvel Legacy #1 along with the announcement that Disney has bought 20th Century Fox is a bit…interesting. How long has this deal been in the works? Has there been any influence from that movie side of things to help nudge the comics side along? Suddenly, there’s a lot of potential for a resurgence for the Four. Thus, we have a slow burn approach to their return and that should be welcomed by us.
Marvel Two-In-One promises to delve into the monumental secret that Doctor Doom has been hiding since the end of Secret Wars. And we’ll see how it will completely flip the script on the lives of Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. At last some lingering questions might get answered and lets be honest, the less that Marvel can spend dwelling on past storylines the better. Let’s hope this will be a quick boost to propel things forward rather than having the characters get introspective.
Regardless, Marvel Two-In-One is promising in that it feels like a step forward to what Marvel has been promising for months. The Fat of the Four are at hand. Let the comeback begin!
