In no particular order…
In the not too distant future, your murder can be crowdfunded. Meet Charlie, the woman who just set the record for the most people wanting her dead. From professional assassins to amateur streamers to little old ladies, everyone wants a piece of the two million dollar pot. And the only one on Charlie’s side is the 1.2 star bounty hunter she’s hired. Good luck.
An absolute must for fans of Dungeons & Dragons or dark fantasy. Twenty-five years ago, six friends gathered for a brand new game. That night, they disappeared into a fantasy realm. They returned two years later broken, missing one arm, and one of their party. But what’s more devastating than the first fantasy journey is the journey back.
A divisive book to be sure, but I don’t think anything on shelves compares to the humor, heart, and incredible design work of Man-Eaters. In a world where the journey to becoming a woman involves turning into a horrible cat monster, it still feels good to rebel. And in a world built for boys, young Molly will is going to fight back in a truly destructive way.
The kind of superhero book I wish they made more of. The funniest book around stars Zayn & Jayna as two otherworldly interns at the Hall of Justice still getting a hang of being on Earth and learning to grapple with their incredible transformative powers. Along the journey of this miniseries, they’ll confront an alcoholic vampire, go on first dates, and deal with something called “Thunder Lust.”
The most consistent book on shelves. For real, this book has been exceptional for over fifty issues. Some of my favorite art in recent memory has been in this book, and it is by far the funniest supehero book I’ve ever read. The cast is so full and delightful I can hardly think of an ensemble I like more. Plus, perhaps my favorite iteration of Kraven the Hunter. This landmark run is ending soon so if you’ve been waiting on this one wait NO MORE!
A gut-wrenching, mind-bending, spine-tingling horror book in the classic Marvel style. The Hulk cannot be killed. Try as they might, his enemies can think of no way to slay him. With a hyper-intelligent Hulk behind the wheel, Bruce Banner will face every demon from his past in this incredible body horror series. Pun intended.
My favorite book of swords and sorcery. Fantasy for the more light-hearted set. Image if your four favorite comedians played a game of D&D and you got to watch their adventures unfold. One of the first comics I ever fell in love with and one I’ll follow to the very end.
These adventures of the mighty Cimmerian might be my favorite in the character’s entire history. Incredible stand alone fantasy stories that all add up to something incredible. This book must be seen to be believed.
I do not miss an issue of this book. We are overflowing with great ideas here. I find most Avengers book to be an absolute snooze, but this current run has grabbed hold of me and refuses to let me go. Truly an heir to the Hickman run in terms of sheer inventiveness, fun, creativity, and good old fashioned superheroics.
Jason Aaron’s epic Thor run began seven years ago and though the main flow of it is wrapping up before year’s end, we now have hopefully many years of tales about Jane Foster Valkyrie to come. This run has been the best superhero book on shelves since its inception. Nothing else comes even close.
No one can accuse the current run of Uncanny X-Men of not swinging for the fences. They knew sitting down to make this book that they had just twenty-three issues to do what they could with the remaining X-Men and by God have they gone for it. Plot points that would have been rested on for years are burnt through in the course of an issue. I am having a hell of a time with this book, warts and all.
