Just a little time today to plug some books and graphic novels that released in the last week or two that you may enjoy or may be under your radar. Wouldn’t ya know it? All of them are available at Forbidden Planet NYC right this very minute!
You’ve Got Red On You HC – How Shaun of the Dead Was Brought to Life. A cult classic that almost didn’t get made, Shaun of the Dead is one of the greatest zombie movies of all time. Here author Clark Collis (Entertainment Weekly) exhaustively (no, really) documents the making of nearly every facet of STOTD, heavily relying on the direct accounts of director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The limited first edition – again, in stock NOW! – contains red foil gilded page edges, foil cover elements, and a black satin ribbon marker and that’s gorgeous and cool and all, but Forbidden Planet NYC’s current batch also come with Foree Electric bookplates signed by Collis! This book is essential Halloween reading, especially for horror fans and young filmmakers/screenwriters, people love to have a laugh or take the piss, etc etc.
Far Sector – The looooooong-awaited collection (the first issue of twelve came out in November 2019 and was postponed for a period by the pandemic) of a Green Lantern story by N.K. Jemisin, winner of damn near every speculative fiction award ever created including three consecutive Hugos, this graphic novel is a murder mystery of cosmic proportions. Jemisin’s most recent urban fantasy novel The City We Became is also making the rounds at Casa de Jefe and can sometimes be found on the toilet, the couch, the kitchen table, the bedroom nightstand, on top of the fridge, the stove… you get the gist. Both are highly recommended and both are in stock NOW.
Nexus Newspaper Strips – Written by Mike Baron and illustrated by the incomparable technical comics genius Steve Rude, who had always wanted to do a Nexus adventure strip a la Prince Valiant, this book collects those stories self-produced in 2016/2016 and more. Get it. It is (sing it with me) in stock NOW!
With that I’m off for a pint at the Winchester to wait for all this to blow over. Hope you have a happy and safe Halloween, fellow heathens.
