Brendon Small’s solo album, Galaktikon is getting the comic adaptation treatment with Galaktikon #1 coming out this week. And man, does this epic know how to take the story of a messy divorce and combine it with some crazy space opera. Following in a recent trend of music and comics crossover, this is set to be one adventure that’ll be a wild ride. Along with Brendon Small to bring the panels to life is none other than THE Eric Powell. With a kickass concept, a cult favorite creator, and a soundtrack to boot, this is one title you’re going to want to explore for yourself.
Brendon Small’s band, Dethlok made a name for themselves with their debut album and the anime “Metalocalypse.” When a second album from the band was held in limbo, Small took it upon himself to create his first solo album and had a couple of his bandmates along for the ride. Hence, Galaktikon, what was described at times as an “audio comic book”. It only makes sense the for then to have this transition into print. With comics featuring Kiss and Slayer hitting the shelves recently, not to mention the graphic novel Murder Ballads that was conceived by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach, it seems to be a focal point for comics and music crossovers.
Galaktikon will follow the tale of Triton. Triton is roams throughout the galaxies being a hero (as you do) but gets served with divorce papers. When Triton needs some advice, he visits a soothsayer who warns him of an impending conflict involving his now ex. Unfortunately, as it must, the danger starts to show signs of coming to fruition. The choice is laid before him: Be a hero even for the woman who left him or save his own skin and saying good riddance to her. Which would you choose?
The cool news is that on August 8th, you can get the chance to speak with Brendon Small himself when he visits Forbidden Planet. Maybe there’ll some tunes, maybe some stories of ex-wives, or even spoilers of what’s to come from this new series. And for a sneak peek, you can have the album ready to accompany your read. Sensory overload is on the menu when Galaktikon #1 hits shelves this week!
That’s been updated, Holly. Thanks for the heads up.
Ah, Brendon is appearing at Forbidden Planet on August 8th. Not the 10th.
