He’s baaaaaaaack! Some moons ago, a legendary writer/artist took us to ancient Sparta. One of the creators who revolutionized comics in the mid-1980’s turned his eye to a historical epic. He defied conventional formatting by presenting a panoramic oversized presentation. Every page was a splash. Every image meant to overwhelm, telling new layers of a larger story within an economized style of line work. This creator was, is, and forever will be Frank Miller. And he doesn’t play it safe or rest on his laurels. And now he’s returned to this world of ancient enemies, gigantic battles between armies, and intrigue into history’s conquerors. Now comes, Xerxes Fall Of The House Of Darius #1.
The premise? Pretty simple to grasp. Persian King Xerxes is going to take over the world. He’ll use his armies and elephants. Xerxes will rule all of known and unknown civilizations in order to avenge the defeat of his father, Darius. Of course, one doesn’t expect the world to bow down without presenting forces of opposition. For Xerxes, the major test will be the feisty Greeks. Who will be their commander and stand opposed to the king with a godlike following from his people? Why, none other than the Greeks’ own god king: Alexander the Great! As far as historical smackdowns go, this one’s going to be no holds barred.
Frank Miller writes and draws his long-awaited companion to his trailblazing 300. Mr. Miller is increasing his output. First, he revisited his legacy with Dark Knight III: Master Race. Now, here comes a new chapter to his ancient world saga. Up next will be a new Superman project. And there’s even more announced. It seems like Mr. Miller is hellbent on hitting a new stride and we are all going to go along for the ride. Pick up Xerxes Fall Of The House Of Darius #1 and see what one of the most influential creators in comics history has in store for us.
