Fantagraphics published Emil Ferris’ debut graphic novel My Favorite Thing is Monsters last week and we’ve been singing its praises to our in-store customers since it hit our shelves.
Here’s the publisher’s marketing:
My Favorite Thing Is Monsters is a murder mystery, a family drama, a sweeping historical epic, and a psychological thriller about monsters, real and imagined. Set against the political backdrop of late ’60s Chicago, Karen Reyes tries to solve the murder of her enigmatic upstairs neighbor. Rendered in a kaleidoscopically visual style, Emil Ferris’ draftsmanship echoes the drawing of Otto Dix, George Grosz, and Robert Crumb.
Sweet Jeebus (!), that does not even hint at the deliciously bonkers art and story Ferris has produced. Not by a fraction. Check this out:
They also snagged a quote from Alison Bechdel (Fun Home) for the back cover.
