Dark Nights: Metal #4 Breaks The Multiverse

Dark Nights: Metal DC Comics

FINALLY, after two long months where we resume our journey into the nightmare that is Dark Nights: Metal with issue number four! There’s so much to get into and there’s no way to do it in just three hundred (or so) words. What can we do but jump with glee and try not to hurt our brains remembering where the heck we left off in DC’s most ambitious story being told. Oh, hey, is that the freakin’ Sandman on the cover of the next installment? Dang there’s a lot to get hyped for.

Okay, so the Justice League has been splintered off to four locations with four connections to Nth metal. Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, and Doctor Fate are on their way to the Rock of Eternity. Green Lantern and Mister Terrific have taken the Plastic Man egg towards Thanagar. Aquaman and Deathstroke are swimming (yup, Deathstroke’s being badass beneath the waves, man) to the Mariana Trench. Oh, and Aquaman’s certain that in saving the Multiverse he’ll probably also doom Atlantis. And finally, Superman, Flash, and Steel used the Phantom Zone projector to get to the heart of the Dark Multiverse. They found Batman (who’s been powering a battery made of people ala Crisis On Infinite Earths) and warned Supes that he was an idiot for coming. Because Superman is the key! Superman is the actual power source that Barbatos needed to complete the “circuit” and lead to his victory.

Phew, okay, a lot to unpack. Many moving parts. Everything looks bleaker than the fate of the internet and once again, we’re getting so many amazing teases to kickass new story possibilities once this event wraps up. Plastic Man? Shazam? Adam Strange? Sandman? Shadowpact? How many more cameos, hints, and promises might there be waiting in store for us this week? There’s so much that’s passed and so much still to come. All set to dive back in?
