Counting Down To Infinity And Beyond

Marvel Infinity Countdown

What are the Infinity Stones? Who has them now? And what is going to happen with them? These are the questions this this week’s Infinity Countdown Prime #1 is going to start addressing. Now, there’s no coincidence that a story centered around the Infinity Stones is happening now. We all know that on May 4th (the weekend of FCBD) Marvel Studios will unleash upon the world their biggest blockbuster to date with “Infinity War.” So, to capitalize is a great tactic for a capitalist industry like comics. Promised as a successor to the events that first began in the 1991’s now seminal Infinity Gauntlet storyline, this prelude issue will set the stage for Marvel’s most massive event since…well, I guess August last year.

The Infinity Stones are ultimate “get” in the Marvel Universe. On their own whoever holds them gives a lot of power. Put them all on one gauntlet, on one being’s hand, and that being is pretty much a god. Now, what are they and who has them? Well, there’s the Space Stone which is currently held by the resurrected Wolverine (Marvel Legacy #1). Star-Lord discovered a super-sized Power Stone being protected by the Nova Corps (Guardians Of The Galaxy #147). As of this writing Drax is guarding it in a secret location. For the Reality Stone, Captain Marvel is chasing it down in an alternate reality. Except her stone was stolen and is in the hands of a benevolent Thanos and Nebula. That’s three down and three more stones to be discovered by you, dear readers.

The scramble for those stones will be the focus of this major not-event-event from Marvel Comics. There’s always potential fun to be had in unexpected match ups. We’ve gotten a peek, wait until you see who Wolverine will go up against…Answers, hopefully, await us in Infinity Countdown Prime #1.
