Tanks, Jets and Bombers: Support Mecha
By Loran So, I’m doing kind of a special review this time around. Remember how I mentioned back in the History of Gunpla article that the “support mecha” were the best kits in the original […]

By Loran Once in a blue moon when all of the planets in the solar system line up and an eclipse occur, Bandai releases a multi-set of HGUC kits as something that ISN’T a convention […]
Letters of Note has discovered and posted this intriguing internal Paramount communiqué from 1987. The casting memo, summarizing potential actors in the running for various roles in the studio’s then-forthcoming relaunch of the Star Trek franchise, […]
Jeez, I cannot believe this month. Last week all we get was one manga, and this week? Nothing. Well, okay there is one single item coming at us from TokyoPop, but I’m not sure if it can even be considered manga. And not for the usual reasons I don’t count half the stuff coming from TokyoPop as manga, this is going to be TokyoPop’s first legitimate single-issue comic book. Here’s the deal. You all love and remember Priest by Min-Woo Hyung (which technically makes it manhwa in the first place, but let’s not nit pick). Well coming out this week is the official comic for the upcoming Priest movie “Priest: Purgatory” that’s going to be starring Paul Bettany (Silas from The Da Vinci Code and the voice of Jarvis in Iron Man). Basically, A veil of evil threatens to engulf humanity, and one man stands in the way of the apocalypse: our hero, a fallen priest who sold his soul for the power to battle evil and fight for humanity’s redemption. […]
Life, if done right, is long. It is also full of unfair twists. We start it off as mindless eating machines that get to take naps, everybody loves and wants to hold, and we get all our meals through breastfeeding. Six Flags! We end our tenure on Earth as interesting, battle scarred individuals that no one wants to talk to and who are routinely ignored for the new and unusual. Two flags. […]
By Loran Welcome to part two of Double Zeta week. I’d love to cover the new HGUC Gundam ZZ kit, buuut I don’t have that one yet. I’m going to cover one of the earlier […]
By Christopher Troy Fun facts kids: Bandai makes kits for other mecha franchises that don’t contain the word “Gundam”. Macross Frontier, Dragon Ball Z, Escaflowne, and of course, Gainax’s Neon Genesis Evangelion have all received […]
By Loran Alrighty, this week, I’m gonna cover some kits from Double Zeta Gundam-one from the old days, and one that’s… well, more recent. I took a bit of inspiration from Chris on this one. […]
By Christopher Troy Reissuing older toys to celebrate an anniversary is something both Western and Eastern collectors are familiar with. On this side of the world, we have seen re-released version of such properties as […]
By Loran It’s really no secret that Quattro Vageena was really Char Aznable, I mean, they stated it in the first episode. You know what’s also not a big secret? That gold mecha tend to […]
By Loran Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the amphibious mobile suits were a staple of the Principality of Zeon’s arsenal during the One Year War. They’re quite an ugly bunch of critters that seem to […]
Every once in awhile, a kit comes a long that I just have to have, and I honestly can’t explain why. It has nothing to do with the design itself, or the engineering or anything of the sort. It just calls to me. And that’s why I love this monster. […]
Otakon 2010 came and went, and it was a decent year, to say the least. Not as good as previous years, but passable, nonetheless. Of course, what I’m here to talk about is the model contest, and thanks to the presence of the BAKUC prelims, it was one of the biggest I’d ever seen. Unfortunately I couldn’t get any pictures of the entire table on Saturday thanks to some a-hole pulling the fire alarm. It went off RIGHT as my friend and I were checking on the progress of the judging. Arg. […]
If you follow the child-pool depth continuity of this blog, Loran’s off at Otakon this weekend. I like video games, drinking and not dealing with a city where “The Wire” took place, so I’m home this weekend, posting an additional article. But we’re not talking Gunpla today, or even Gundam. Instead, we’re going to focus on the overlooked import toy section of Forbidden Planet NYC! I’m hoping to turn this into a new feature on the blog, as man, I love me some Revoltechs. […]
Well guys, Otakon is drawing near. And by near I mean way too close. It’s funny, up until today it didn’t feel so close, and I wasn’t particularly excited up until today. I’ve gone for several years, but for once there was no actual buildup. Now of course, I go to cons all the time but I never talk about them here. Well, this time is an exception, because as I mentioned before, they’re holding the preliminaries for BAKUC, along with their own model contest. […]
by Christopher Troy Greetings readers! Welcome to “News from the Front”, our newest feature on the FPNYC Gundam Blog, with a title I clearly swiped from a Bad Religion song! With this new “monthly”/whenever I’m […]
New TRON Legacy footage premiered at Comic-Con this morning!!! Pretty rad, huh? More footage was reportedly shown at the panel, but this represents what’s officially been released to the web. It’s enough, though, as there’s […]
By Loran In the 90’s, Gunpla started to get a bit more complex. 1990 introduced the “grade” system, which is still used today. This era featured many kits that most people second-generation fans know from […]
Leonardo Dicaprio in Inception, now playing in a prequel comic near you! I get it all the time. “Do you have the comic that ______ was based on?” My usual response is, “No, I’m sorry. […]
By Loran While I take a small break from GM Cannon articles to get some painting done, I figured I should go over another important topic-the many lines kits come from. Gunpla has evolved considerably […]
