There’s no better time for board games than when the wind is howling, the outside world so uninviting that it drives you inside, ’round the table, dice in hand, ready for an adventure. And there is no game better suited to while away the hours than Arkham Horror.
Now in its third beautiful edition, the Lovecraftian Arkham Horror series is exactly what the criminally insane doctor ordered. Wicked (and wickedly difficult), this game of investigation and discovery is second to none in capturing what makes the work of Incredibly Complicated Public Figure H.P. Lovecraft so lasting.
There’s a whole host of expansions for Arkham Horror, but I’d recommend picking up the stellar base game first because each addition only makes it that much harder. It’s all the punishing fun of Dark Souls, with none of the thumb pain.
