Iron Man 2 hits theaters this coming Friday and while that flick is predicted to be among 2010’s biggest box office draws (okay, it’s going to be one of THE biggest of all time) one year from now we’ll be days away from the new THOR movie directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
Well, Marvel Studios/Paramount kicked the hype machine into gear for their 2011 release this week, releasing the first still shot of Hemworth in costume…
Whaddya think? Obviously influenced by the current armor incarnation (see below) running in Marvel’s comics, it looks sleek and less dopey than I worried it might.
One thing’s for sure- it’s a helluva lot better than the one featured in the God of Thunder’s only other live action adventure, The Incredible Hulk Returns. Yikes! That Mjöllnir had to be made of styrofoam.
However, it’s not all roses and wing-tipped helmets on the set of the film. Conflict and in-fighting are apparently rampant, as reported recently in The New York Daily News.
Who knows? Maybe it’ll have a happy ending. We’ll find out May 7th, 2011.
